PS1 Classics Still in Stock at GAMERIFT: A Quick Look at What’s Left
Original PlayStation 1 discs are getting harder to find in South Africa, especially the lesser-known titles that never had massive print runs. We have a small batch of PS1 classics on the shelf at the moment, and once they are gone, restocking them is honestly a coin flip. If you collect retro Sony games, or you still have a working PS1 (or a PS2 / PS3 that plays original discs), this is worth a look.

What is currently in the PS1 cabinet
A quick rundown of some of the titles we have right now. These are the kinds of games that get talked about on retro forums and YouTube channels, then disappear off the second-hand market for months at a time.
- Alien Resurrection: A first-person shooter based on the fourth Alien film. It used twin-stick controls before that was the norm on console FPS games, and it still holds up as a tense, atmospheric shooter.
- Running Wild: A wacky animal-themed racer from Sony. Pure late-90s charm, and a tough one to track down in good condition.
- Star Ixiom: A space combat shooter from Namco, a spiritual cousin to the Ace Combat series but set in space. Underrated and uncommon outside of Japan and PAL regions.
- Omega Boost: Polyphony Digital’s mech shooter, often listed among the best-looking PS1 games ever made. Fast, flashy, and brutal.
- Kurushi: The original block-pushing puzzler (known as Intelligent Qube in the US). Simple to learn, ruthless to master.
- Real Bout Fatal Fury: SNK fighting royalty, ported from the Neo Geo. A must-have if you take 2D fighters seriously.
- Devil Dice: A clever dice-rolling puzzle game from THQ that builds into something genuinely addictive once it clicks.
- Rally Cross 2: Off-road racing with proper physics, big air, and split-screen multiplayer that still works for a couch session.
There are a few other odds and ends on the page too, so it is worth scrolling through the full PS1 listing rather than searching one title at a time.
Heads up: Original PS1 games are not being reprinted. Once a specific title sells out, the next copy we get in could be weeks or months away, and usually at a higher price as second-hand stock dries up.
Why these titles matter to collectors
PAL PS1 discs in playable condition are a finite resource. A lot of the games above are either niche imports that never got huge regional runs, or cult favourites that get rediscovered every few years and spike in price overseas. Buying locally also means no import duty surprises, no risk of a disc getting cracked in transit from the UK, and a tested product on arrival.
All our pre-owned games are checked before they go up. If a disc has notable wear or a case is missing the original inlay, we say so on the listing.
What you need to play them
- An original PS1 or PSone console.
- A PS2 (any model with a disc drive) will play PS1 discs natively.
- Most original PS3 models with backwards compatibility will also run them.
- A memory card is essential for saving. PS1 saves do not carry across to PS2 or PS3 memory units automatically.
